Sindh Begins Procurement of Bio-Gas Buses for Karachi, Says Sharjeel Memon

Karachi: Sindh’s Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has announced that the formal process for purchasing bio-gas–powered buses for Karachi has begun.

The announcement came during a meeting between Sharjeel Memon and a high-level delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at his office in Karachi. The meeting focused on financial assistance for ongoing transport projects and future mobility initiatives. Secretary Transport Asad Zaman and TransKarachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro were also present.

The ADB delegation expressed satisfaction with Sindh’s transport projects and assured continued support for upcoming schemes related to public transport and urban mobility.

Memon stated that Sindh will be the first province in Pakistan to introduce buses powered by bio-gas. He emphasized that the government aims to ensure these buses are not only environmentally friendly but also meet international service standards. Each bus, he added, will be equipped with an Intelligent Transport System (ITS).

He further said that work on establishing a bio-gas plant in Karachi will begin soon, noting that such initiatives are vital for promoting eco-friendly transportation. According to the minister, the introduction of bio-gas and electric vehicles will help reduce environmental pollution in the city.
