Flood Death Toll in Sri Lanka Rises to 123; Over 370,000 People Affected

Sri Lanka: The death toll from **Cyclone Dethuwa** in Sri Lanka has risen to **123**, with over **370,000 people affected** as rescue operations continue across the country.
The **Disasters Management Center** of Sri Lanka reported that **130 people remain missing**, and search efforts are ongoing. The **Kandy district** has been the hardest hit, with 51 confirmed deaths and 67 people missing. **Badulla** follows with 35 fatalities and 27 missing, while **Kegalle**, **Nuwara Eliya**, and **Ampara** districts reported 9, 6, and 5 deaths respectively. Authorities have warned that the death toll could rise further.
Thousands of displaced people have been moved to relief camps, and rescue operations are underway to provide aid. Experts attribute the severity of the floods to **climate change**, citing unprecedented and unseasonal rainfall, floods, and snowfall as key contributors.
Climate specialists have warned that without **revolutionary measures**, extreme weather events may pose one of the greatest threats to humanity in the coming years.
