E-Challan System Activated in Rawalpindi for Traffic Violations

Rawalpindi – The **e-challan system** for traffic violations has officially been activated in Rawalpindi, twin city of the federal capital, Islamabad, starting today.
Under the initiative, part of the **Safe City Project**, automated e-challans will be issued through CCTV cameras linked to the **Safe City Command and Control Center**. Vehicle owners will receive a notice of violation along with images and a code, and fines must be paid within the stipulated time.
The system will automatically issue fines for violations such as **jumping traffic signals, riding motorcycles without helmets, lane violations, using mobile phones while driving**, and driving vehicles with **illegal or unregistered number plates**. Notices will be sent directly to the owner’s home once a violation is recorded.
Rawalpindi’s Safe City Project has **over 2,000 cameras installed at 359 locations**, including 15 cameras at entry and exit points of the city. The system is also being used for effective monitoring of public areas, traffic management, performance of traffic police, and supervision of major roads. Authorities stated that the surveillance system is helping in the timely reporting of crimes and incidents, enhancing overall public safety.
