Balochistan Assembly Passes Resolution to Ban Trans Fats and Partially Hydrogenated Oils

*Quetta:** The Balochistan Assembly has passed a resolution calling for **strict restrictions on the production, sale, and use of industrially-produced trans fatty acids (TFA) and partially hydrogenated oils (PHO)**. The resolution was presented by **Deputy Speaker Ghazala Gola** on behalf of the Women Parliamentary Caucus members.

Proponent **Farah Azim Shah** stated that consumption of these harmful substances contributes to **heart diseases, diabetes, and other serious health conditions**. The resolution recommended banning foods containing more than **2% total fat** in accordance with international standards and urged **immediate legislation** to phase out the production and import of PHOs.

Additionally, in response to a demand by assembly member **Syed Zafar Ali Agha**, **Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai** requested detailed information about all ghee and oil factories operating in the province.

The resolution aims to protect public health by aligning Balochistan’s food standards with global safety practices and reducing the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
