Severe Drought in Balochistan Threatens Rare Wildlife at Takatu National Park

Quetta: The ongoing drought in Balochistan has severely affected **Takatu National Park**, located on the outskirts of Quetta. With natural springs and water reservoirs dried up, nearly **500 animals**, including **Markhor, Chinkara deer, wolves, and other wildlife**, are facing an acute shortage of drinking water.

According to **Chief Wildlife Conservator Sharifuddin Baloch**, below-average rainfall over the past two years has depleted all natural water sources within the park.

**Abdul Fatah Bhanger**, Secretary of Balochistan Forests and Wildlife Department, stated that emergency measures are underway to supply water to animals by transporting it to ponds and other storage sites, ensuring that the rare wildlife does not suffer from thirst. He emphasized that **additional resources are urgently needed** to protect the park’s biodiversity.
