Major Customs Operation at Taftan Border Foils Smuggling Attempt of 11.16 Million Methadone Tablets

Quetta: Pakistan Customs Balochistan has successfully foiled a major smuggling attempt of the dangerous narcotic drug **Methadone** at the **Pak-Iran Taftan border**, recovering **11.16 million tablets** worth approximately **Rs. 446 million**, according to a spokesperson for the **Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)**.
The spokesperson said that the tablets were concealed inside **620 cartons loaded in a container**, belonging to a Taftan-based importer previously involved in **customs fraud and misdeclaration cases**.
Authorities arrested one individual attempting to transfer the consignment into a private vehicle. The FBR clarified that the **import of Methadone** is strictly regulated and can only be carried out with a **No Objection Certificate (NOC)** issued by the **Ministry of Narcotics Control** on the recommendation of the **Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP)**.
Customs officials have registered a case under the **Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997**, and further investigations are underway to identify and arrest other suspects involved in the smuggling attempt.
Officials praised the operation as a major success in preventing the influx of controlled narcotic substances into the country.
