Government Decides to Strengthen Counter-Terrorism Force and Police Capacity for Lasting Peace in Balochistan

QUETTA: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Quetta on Saturday and held a meeting with Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti to discuss the province’s overall law and order situation, ongoing counterterrorism operations, and future security strategies.

A high-level meeting on peace and security in Balochistan, jointly chaired by Mohsin Naqvi and Mir Sarfraz Bugti, reviewed the provincial government’s efforts to combat terrorism and restore lasting peace. The chief minister briefed participants on the current security situation and the government’s roadmap for addressing emerging challenges.

During the meeting, it was decided to further enhance the professional capabilities of Balochistan’s Counter-Terrorism Force (CTF) and police. The participants also agreed to accelerate progress on decisions aimed at strengthening the provincial police force, with the Ministry of Interior assuring its full support in providing the necessary resources.

Mohsin Naqvi reiterated the federal government’s commitment to supporting Balochistan in establishing sustainable peace and stability. He emphasized that the immediate and effective implementation of the province’s peace restoration master plan is the need of the hour.

The interior minister directed that the experience and expertise of former inspectors general of Balochistan Police should be utilized while formulating security strategies for the province. He stressed that modern technology, enhanced intelligence capabilities, and coordinated planning are indispensable in the fight against terrorism.

Naqvi further stated that the federal and provincial governments are moving forward with complete unity and coordination to ensure peace in Balochistan. He pledged that the federal government would continue to provide the province with the resources, training, and modern facilities required to strengthen its security apparatus.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said the government would remain proactive in the fight against terrorism and would not succumb to any pressure. He vowed that the writ of the state would be upheld at all costs and that no space would be left for terrorist elements in the province.

Highlighting the provincial government’s priorities, Bugti said that providing the youth of Balochistan with quality education, technical training, employment opportunities, and constructive avenues for growth remains a top objective. He added that merit-based policies are being implemented to restore young people’s confidence and ensure equal opportunities for advancement.

The chief minister emphasized that peace, development, and prosperity are intrinsically linked and must progress simultaneously. He expressed confidence that, with the support of the federal government, both security initiatives and development projects in Balochistan would be implemented more effectively and at an accelerated pace.
