Colorful Halo Over Quetta’s Sky Amazes Residents — Met Office Identifies Lenticular Cloud as the Cause

*Quetta (Qudrat Daily)* — Residents of **Quetta** were left astonished early Monday morning after witnessing a **stunning display of colorful lights** over the city’s skyline. The mesmerizing phenomenon quickly became a topic of fascination on social media as locals shared photos and videos of the breathtaking view.
According to **Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) spokesperson Anjum Nazir**, the phenomenon occurred around **6:20 a.m.** when a **lenticular cloud** formed above the **Koh-e-Murdar mountain range** east of Quetta. The cloud appeared shortly before sunrise and **dissipated around 6:45 a.m.**
Explaining the science behind it, Nazir said that **lenticular clouds** are **lens-shaped stationary clouds** that form when **moist, stable air flows over mountains**, creating **atmospheric waves**. These clouds appear where the air cools to its **dew point**, while lower layers remain dry, causing the formation to vanish as air descends.
He added that such clouds are often **mistaken for UFOs** because of their **smooth, saucer-like shape** and unique appearance.
The spectacular sight, blending hues of **orange, pink, and violet**, captivated Quetta’s residents — a rare reminder of nature’s artistry above the city’s rugged landscape.
