Balochistan Assembly Passes Resolution to Remove Illegal Water Pipes from Canals

Quetta:The Balochistan Assembly on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution demanding the immediate removal of **illegal water pipes installed in canals across Jaffarabad and other districts**, which have deprived thousands of farmers and residents of their rightful water share.
The resolution, presented by Parliamentary Secretary **Abdul Majeed Badini**, stated that despite **clear orders from the Balochistan High Court**, the Irrigation Department has failed to act against the large-scale illegal practice. As a result, more than **500,000 people have been deprived of drinking water**, while farmers face what was termed as “economic murder.”
The Assembly called on the provincial government to:
* Remove all illegal water connections from canals.
* Take strict action against officials and staff who ignored court directives.
* Install **digital monitoring systems** on every canal and distributary to ensure transparency in water distribution.
* Strengthen **Water User Committees** to guarantee fair access to irrigation water.
During the same session, the Assembly also discussed the **Balochistan Establishment of Special Courts and Seized Pakistanis’ Property Bill 2025**, presented by **Zareen Magsi**, which was unanimously passed.
Agriculture Minister **Sadiq Umrani** assured the House that **no new pipes would be allowed on Pat Feeder canals** and emphasized that the government is actively combating water theft. He also highlighted steps taken to protect **Naseerabad from flooding**, stressing the province’s preparedness for any emergency.
The session concluded with a unanimous vote in favor of the resolution, marking a significant step toward **curbing water theft, ensuring fair distribution, and addressing farmers’ grievances**.
