Imran Khan’s Statements on Peaceful Protests Questioned Amid Arrest

Islamabad:Following the revelation that former Prime Minister Imran Khan admitted to making a “peaceful protest” call outside the GHQ before his arrest, several PTI leaders are now contradicting their leader’s statement. This comes despite Imran Khan previously defending his supporters’ protests on May 9 and warning of a strong backlash in case of further arrests.

According to investigative journalist Ansar Abbasi’s report, during a hearing of the 190 million pound case in Adiala Jail last Monday, Imran Khan confessed to urging for a peaceful protest outside GHQ before his arrest, stating, “These people turned our peaceful protest into treachery.”

Despite the contradictory statements by various PTI leaders after Imran Khan’s admission, Ansar Abbasi’s investigation suggests that Imran Khan consistently justified PTI’s protests outside GHQ and other military areas on May 9.

Referring to reports published in newspapers, the report further mentioned that three days after the violent crackdown on PTI activists on May 9, Imran Khan had warned of severe reactions in the event of his re-arrest.

According to a report published on May 13, Imran had further stated that in the absence of party leadership, political workers become directionless and can resort to violent protests if their leaders are unlawfully arrested.

There were also reports attributing to Imran Khan that if they were not taken outside, where would the people protest, and that they went to the commanders where the protesters should have gone to peacefully protest.
