Police End PTI Sit-In Near Adiala Jail at 2 AM After Water Cannon Use; Several Workers Detained

Rawalpindi — Police dispersed a sit-in staged by the sisters of former PTI chairman Imran Khan and party workers at Factory Naka near Adiala Jail at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, after hours of tension between protesters and law enforcement.

According to sources, police used water cannons to scatter the demonstrators. Senator Mushtaq also arrived at the protest to express solidarity with Imran Khan’s sisters and was struck by the water cannon during the operation.

Clashes erupted when PTI workers allegedly pelted stones at police, after which multiple workers were detained. The protest began after PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Imran Khan’s sisters were denied permission to meet the former prime minister in jail.

Police stopped the sisters at Factory Naka, prompting Aleema Khan to calm the charged crowd. She repeatedly urged workers to move back, emphasizing that the police were “not our enemies” and were themselves under pressure.

Aleema Khan said that their request for a meeting had been pending for weeks. “My sister did not discuss politics during the last meeting. Who has ordered solitary confinement for Imran Khan? We have been coming here for a month just for a meeting,” she added.

Despite multiple rounds of negotiations between Aleema Khan and police officials, no breakthrough was achieved.

Sources revealed that police had seized 14 official and private vehicles belonging to PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter. Five vehicles were returned, but the protest leadership demanded that all vehicles be released before ending the sit-in.

Meanwhile, Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar stated that there is “not even a one percent chance” of a meeting with the former prime minister after violations of the law. He said visitation rights were suspended based on legal grounds, not personal preferences.
