Journalist Bodies Condemn Police Raid on Islamabad Press Club, Term It ‘Act of Terrorism

ISLAMABAD:Leading journalist organizations, including the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), and Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND), have strongly condemned the police raid on Islamabad Press Club, branding it an “act of terrorism.”

In a joint statement, the organizations said the raid was part of a series of ongoing actions against journalists, aimed at harassment and silencing freedom of expression. They demanded strict action against officials involved in the incident, warning that all constitutional and legal options would be exercised to resist such moves.

President of Karachi Press Club, Fazil Jamili, also denounced the incident, calling it a violation of the sanctity of the National Press Club. “This action by Islamabad police is unacceptable and full accountability must follow,” he said.

Similarly, the president of Peshawar Press Club reaffirmed that there would be “no compromise on press freedom,” while the Balochistan Union of Journalists also condemned the assault and demanded immediate action against those responsible.

The incident has sparked outrage across media circles, with calls for ensuring press freedom and an end to the intimidation of journalists in Pakistan.
