National Party Leaders Recall Struggles of Political Workers, Condemn Repression After Sept 2 Tragedy

Quetta:National Party (NP) President and former Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch has said that political maturity comes through intellectual gatherings, continuity of struggle, and enduring the hardships of imprisonment. He stressed that a genuine political worker remains committed to ideological heritage, no matter the difficulties.

Speaking at a gathering, Dr. Malik recalled that senior leaders of past generations spent years behind bars but never compromised on their principles. “From Nehru to Gul Khan Naseer, books were written, studied, and poetry composed even inside prisons,” he noted.

Referring to the September 2 tragedy, he said NP, along with allied political workers, successfully staged a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike on September 8 through “intellectual strength and commitment.” He condemned police action against peaceful protestors, calling the shelling and arrests unjustified.

Dr. Malik paid tribute to party leader Comrade Ghafar Qambarani for enduring unlawful imprisonment with courage and resilience. He said Pakistan is currently caught in an “abnormal situation—neither democracy nor dictatorship, but an undeclared suspension of the Constitution.” According to him, ruling powers are trying to halt the democratic process and sideline political parties.

“Only ideologically firm, organized political movements can bring social change and secure people’s rights,” he added, expressing hope in NP’s youth leadership to continue the mission of their elders.

NP Provincial President Aslam Baloch highlighted sacrifices of past leaders: “Founder of the political struggle, Mir Abdul Aziz Kurd, was imprisoned at 13; Muhammad Hussain Anqa spent 27 years in jail; Mir Ghous Bakhsh Bizenjo served 14 years for resisting the One Unit scheme.” He praised NP workers for making the September 8 strike a success despite state repression, saying only NP can bring real change in Balochistan.

Former Provincial President Mir Abdul Khaliq Baloch recalled that all major leaders were present on September 2, when lives were lost in what he described as “a true national tragedy.” He said the September 8 strike showed the public stands with democratic political forces, but regretted that a certain class still resists true people’s representation.

NP MNA Phoolain Baloch called the September 2 incident “a deeply tragic event” and said she raised the matter in the National Assembly by tabling a condemnation resolution.

Other speakers included NP Provincial General Secretary Advocate Changez Khan Baloch, BSO-Pajjar Chairman Boyer Saleh Baloch, NP central leader and intellectual Agha Gul, NP Quetta Vice President Hanif Kakar, and Provincial Education Secretary Saadia Badini. The session was moderated by Dr. Tariq Baloch, BSO-Pajjar Junior Vice Chairman.
