Balochistan Irrigation Minister: Flood Threat Subsides, Preventive Measures Remain in Place

NASEERABAD:Provincial Minister for Irrigation **Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani** has said that in view of the possible flood situation in Sindh, the **Irrigation Department of Balochistan has been active from day one** under the directives of Chief Minister **Mir Sarfraz Khan Bugti**, while divisional administration remained mobilized to shift people to safer locations and ensure timely action in the public interest.

Speaking during his visit to the Irrigation Department in Naseerabad Division, Umrani said he had also visited **Sukkur Barrage** and obtained a detailed briefing from Sindh irrigation officials. According to the latest assessment, **the immediate flood threat has passed**, though precautionary measures for a possible **super flood** had already been taken. He added that the department is still **closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis**.

The minister was accompanied by Provincial Irrigation Secretary **Saleh Muhammad Nasir**, Chief Engineer Canals **Nasir Majeed**, Superintending Engineer **Ghulam Sarwar Bangulzai**, PPP Naseerabad Division President **Mir Bilal Sadiq Umrani**, Executive Engineer Pat Feeder Canal **Fareed Ahmed Pindrani**, Federal Project Irrigation Department Coordinator **Engr. Samiullah Baloch**, Deputy Director Agriculture Extension **Zaheer Ahmed Umrani**, Sub-Divisional Officer **Saifullah Bangulzai**, Barkat Ali Khosa, and other senior officials.

Umrani said the irrigation team, under CM’s orders, had been present in Naseerabad Division for the last four days, where a detailed review of the potential flood threat was conducted with the commissioner and deputy commissioners.

“Our top priority is to protect lives and property, relocate citizens to safe places in time, and safeguard crops and livestock,” the minister stressed.

He added that in consultation with the **Sindh government**, it was agreed that both provinces would take **joint preventive measures** along the **western bank of the Indus River** to prevent any breach or cut. “By the grace of Allah, the situation is now under control and the danger has significantly reduced,” Umrani concluded.
