Heavy Rains Forecast Across Punjab, PDMA Issues Alert

Lahore: The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert, warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms across most districts of the province from August 29 to September 2.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, this will be the ninth spell of the monsoon, bringing strong downpours to Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot. Rainfall is also expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur.

Relief Commissioner Punjab, Nabeel Javed, has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert. Acting on the directives of the Chief Minister, he said that monsoon rains have already caused severe flooding in Punjab’s rivers and tributaries. Extremely high flood levels are being reported in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.

The Relief Commissioner warned that monsoon rains could further swell streams and nullahs in major cities. Relevant departments, including Health, Irrigation, Communication & Works, Local Government, and Livestock, have been placed on alert.

Citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures during bad weather, avoid gathering near rivers, refrain from recreational activities in flood-prone areas, and stay in safe locations during storms. People have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and contact the PDMA helpline 1129 in case of emergencies.
