Tree Plantation is a Continuing Charity, Essential for Health and Environment: Balochistan Chief Secretary Inaugurates Urban Forest Park in Quetta

Quetta:Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan, emphasized the importance of tree plantation, calling it a *”Sadaqah Jariyah”* (continuing charity) and a crucial step toward improving national health, economy, and reducing diseases. He stated that in the face of rising air pollution, it is the national and moral duty of every responsible citizen to plant at least one tree and ensure its proper care so it grows into a strong, environment-friendly tree.

He expressed these views during the inauguration of the **Urban Forest Park** in Quetta, where he formally launched the tree plantation campaign by planting a tree himself.

The Chief Secretary stressed that increasing green cover and expanding forest areas is the need of the hour, especially considering the alarming environmental pollution. Tree planting not only enhances the natural beauty of the surroundings but also plays a significant role in purifying the environment and mitigating pollution.

He explained that the Urban Forest Park is part of a broader urban forestry initiative aimed at improving Quetta’s climate, reducing high temperatures, and addressing poor air quality in the city. The park, he noted, maintains natural aesthetics and ecological balance without any artificial or synthetic constructions, reflecting a strong commitment to preserving the natural landscape.

“All plants and trees in the park are of native species, making the environment more sustainable and familiar,” he added. “This approach not only protects biodiversity but also brings people closer to nature in an eco-friendly setting.”

Chief Secretary Khan also highlighted the need to reduce carbon content in the environment, describing it as vital for improving air quality and combating climate change. “Reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions is key to addressing global warming and climate-related challenges,” he said.

In addition to afforestation, he revealed that the government is working on **Open Space Programs** and utilizing inactive public spaces to create natural, healthy recreational environments for the community. These efforts aim to maintain ecological balance while providing citizens with clean and peaceful areas for relaxation and well-being.

He concluded by saying that the government is actively pursuing the development of more parks and recreational spaces across the province to enhance the quality of life for the people of Balochistan.
