PNAP Strongly Condemns Ali Wazir’s Re-Arrest in Sukkur, Calls It State Oppression and Contempt of Court

Quetta/Sukkur: Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party has strongly condemned the re-arrest of Ali Wazir by Sindh Police and plainclothes armed personnel in the city of Sukkur. In a press release, the party described the incident as illegal, unconstitutional, and akin to an enforced disappearance, calling it a severe example of state repression.
Ali Wazir had spent nearly 19 months in prison despite being innocent, and his release was ordered by the Sindh High Court. However, immediately after his release, while attending an Iftar gathering in Sukkur, he was forcibly taken into custody again by intelligence agencies and Sindh Police in a manner described as unlawful and unconstitutional. The PNAP labeled this action as not only a blatant violation of the constitution and law but also a direct contempt of a court order.
The party statement highlighted that such acts reflect ongoing attempts to suppress public and democratic voices through political pressure, intimidation, and force. The re-arrest of an elected representative under the shadow of armed personnel constitutes a grave violation of human rights and democratic principles, unacceptable in any civilized society.
PNAP expressed deep concern over the role of the Sindh Police and criticized the provincial government for undermining democratic norms and the rule of law. The statement emphasized that these actions are aimed at silencing voices advocating for constitutional rights, equality, and justice.
The party demanded that the authorities immediately inform the public of Ali Wazir’s location, the agency responsible for his custody, and the legal basis for his detention. They called for his safety to be guaranteed and for him to be produced before a court without delay to uphold legal procedures. PNAP reaffirmed its commitment to continue the struggle for democracy, constitutional supremacy, and protection of public rights, ensuring that voices for justice and public dignity are never silenced.
