PTI Leader and Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Ahmad Bachhar Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison in May 9 Case

Lahore: PTI leader and Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmad Bachhar, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the May 9 case.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Arshad Javed of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore, where the hearing for the May 9 incident was conducted in Kot Lakhpat Jail. During the proceedings, both defense and prosecution lawyers presented their final arguments. The court concluded the jail trial concerning the incitement speeches and vandalism at the Sherpao Bridge on May 9.
After hearing the final arguments, the court sentenced Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Bachhar to 10 years of imprisonment. The court also sentenced other individuals involved in the case, including National Assembly member Ahmad Chatta, to 10 years in prison.
Notably, 32 accused, including Malik Ahmad Bachhar, were exempted from appearing in court, which is why neither Bachhar nor any other accused was present during the announcement of the verdict.
The court also ordered further arguments to be presented by Dr. Yasmeen Rashid’s lawyer at 10:00 AM the following day, after which the final decision will be made. Additionally, the trial of 14 other accused, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, has been completed, with 61 government witnesses providing statements during the trial.
