NEPRA Notifies New Net Metering Regulations 2026, Superseding 2015 Rules

Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued the notification for the Net Metering Regulations 2026, which will also apply to biogas users.
According to the notification, the new regulations introduce a net billing system, under which billing will be done at the end of each billing cycle. Net metering users will sell electricity to the national grid at the national average energy price, while receiving electricity from the grid according to the existing tariff structure.
The policy stipulates that users supplying excess electricity to the national grid will be paid on a quarterly basis. The contract duration for net metering has been limited to five years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional five years upon completion of the initial term.
NEPRA stated that with the introduction of these regulations, the Net Metering Regulations 2015 will be suspended.
