Joe Root Sets New World Record for Most Catches by a Non-Wicketkeeper in Test Cricket

England’s most successful cricketer, Joe Root, has set a new world record in Test cricket. Known for his exceptional batting skills, Root has consistently troubled opposing teams and broken numerous records with the bat. However, he has now achieved a remarkable feat in the field as well.
On Friday, during the ongoing Lord’s Test match against India, Joe Root made a stunning catch off Indian batter Karun Nair, setting the record for the most catches taken by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket. Root now holds the world record with 211 catches in 266 Test innings.
Prior to Root’s achievement, the record for the most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket was held by former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, who took 210 catches in 301 innings.
In addition to his fielding milestone, Joe Root’s brilliant century helped England put up a strong total of 387 runs in their first innings against India in the ongoing Lord’s Test. Root scored 104 runs, marking his 37th Test century.
At the close of play on day two, India had scored 145 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. The third Test of the five-match series is currently tied at 1-1 between the two teams.
