Karachi Resident Challenges Restaurant’s Ban on Shalwar Kameez in Consumer Court

A citizen from Karachi has approached the Consumer Court following a ban imposed by a restaurant in Defence Phase 8 on patrons wearing **shalwar kameez**, Pakistan’s traditional attire. The petitioner, **Latif Baloch Advocate**, stated that he and his friends were denied entry to the restaurant simply for wearing shalwar kameez, with the restaurant management insisting that it was against the rules to enter in this attire.

The restaurant’s management clarified that **shalwar kameez** was prohibited within the premises. In response, **Latif Baloch** argued in his petition that shalwar kameez is Pakistan’s **national dress** and no establishment has the right to impose such a ban.

The petition also requested the court to order the restaurant management to **apologize** and impose a **fine of 1 million rupees** on the restaurant for the discriminatory act.

The Consumer Court has scheduled a hearing for the case on **14th July**. This case highlights the ongoing debate regarding cultural dress norms and individual rights in public spaces.
