200 People in Punjab Suffer Eye and Skin Disorders After Using Substandard Hair Oil for Baldness Prevention

Punjab, India: At least 200 individuals in Punjab have fallen victim to eye and skin disorders after using substandard hair oil promoted as a solution for hair loss and baldness. According to a report by an Indian broadcasting agency, a social media campaign was launched, featuring popular celebrities, including local showbiz figures, claiming that the oil had helped prevent hair fall and made their hair stronger.
The campaign was spread across various online platforms, including Facebook, where these celebrities boasted about the miraculous effects of the oil. The promotion led to a significant number of people using the product, with an event held in the town of Sangrur, where participants paid for the application of the oil to their scalps.
However, just hours after the event, 200 individuals began complaining of severe eye allergies and skin rashes. The condition worsened progressively, with many suffering from serious eye infections. All affected individuals were rushed to hospitals for emergency care.
Following the widespread incident, local authorities and media sprang into action, arresting those responsible for organizing the event and selling the substandard hair oil. The annual market for hair care products aimed at preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth in India exceeds $282 million, with a steady rise in demand each year.
