Sindh Government Spokesperson Criticizes Absence of Local Government System, Praises Eid Efforts of Municipal Representatives

Sadia Javed, the spokesperson for the Sindh government, has expressed strong discontent over the lack of a local government system in Pakistan’s largest province, calling it a form of injustice to the public. In a statement, she criticized the situation where the Chief Minister of Punjab has to personally oversee tasks like opening drainage systems and ensuring cleanliness in the province.

Sadia Javed highlighted that when the local government machinery is not functioning effectively, provincial leaders are compelled to run advertisements and take personal responsibility for administrative issues. “It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister of Punjab has to come personally to handle issues like cleaning and opening drains. This reflects the absence of an effective local government system,” she said.

However, the spokesperson also praised the efforts of local representatives in Sindh during the recent Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. She specifically commended the cleanliness efforts in major cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, and Larkana, noting that the municipal staff and elected representatives had worked diligently to maintain public hygiene during the festive season.

“The local government representatives in Sindh, including mayors and chairpersons, have done exemplary work. The transfer of power to the local level has significantly improved the performance of public representatives. Their hard work has been evident,” Sadia Javed remarked.

In particular, she acknowledged the contributions of the Solid Waste Management Board workers, calling them the true heroes of this Eid. Their tireless efforts in managing waste collection and maintaining cleanliness during the busy festive period were crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning of the province’s cities.

Sadia Javed concluded by reiterating that the current local government system in Sindh, despite its challenges, has worked effectively in certain areas and that there is a clear need for a stronger, more cohesive system for the welfare of the people.
