Sindh to Impose Complete Ban on Plastic Shopping Bags from June 15: CM Murad Ali Shah

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced a complete ban on plastic shopping bags across the province starting from June 15, 2025. The announcement was made in connection with World Environment Day, which is being observed globally under the theme of eliminating plastic pollution.
In his message, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for collective efforts to protect the environment from plastic pollution. He appealed to the public to minimize the use of plastic and adopt cleaner, eco-friendly practices.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Sindh government has already launched a province-wide plastic cleanup campaign and is ensuring strict implementation of plastic regulations. “A plastic-free Sindh is our dream, and we must work together to make it a reality,” he said.
He added that the government is promoting the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth and paper bags. In addition to the ban, the Sindh government is actively working on afforestation, including the plantation of mangroves, the promotion of the recycling industry, and cleaning of rivers and drainage systems.
The Chief Minister also mentioned ongoing collaborations with educational and social institutions to raise environmental awareness among citizens.
