Indian Analyst Praveen Sawhney Admits Strategic Failure in Aggression Against Pakistan

New Delhi/Islamabad:Amid ongoing criticism of India’s unjustified aggression towards Pakistan, prominent Indian defense analyst **Praveen Sawhney** has once again questioned **New Delhi’s military misadventures**, stating that **India gained nothing from attacking Pakistan** and instead suffered **a blow to its international credibility**.
Speaking in a televised discussion with journalist **Arfa Khanum Sherwani**, Sawhney bluntly stated, “We achieved nothing from attacking Pakistan.” He added that the **Indian air strikes lacked clear military objectives** and only damaged India’s **global reputation**. “The world is watching what kind of military strength we demonstrated during this crisis,” he remarked.
Referring to the **Balakot air strikes**, Sawhney criticized the **Indian Air Force’s approach**, saying, “Even then, we didn’t know what we were doing. This time, Pakistan was fully prepared for any aerial aggression.” He emphasized that **military targets**, not **alleged terror camps**, should have been the focus if a strike was to be justified.
Citing a statement from **Pakistan Air Marshal Aurangzeb**, who claimed **five Indian fighter jets were shot down** on May 7, Sawhney pointed out the contrast in responses. “When our own Air Marshal was asked about the losses, he simply said ‘losses are part of war,’ without providing clarity. That leaves room for the opposing narrative to be accepted internationally,” he said.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s prompt military response, noting that **DG ISPR had warned of retaliation**, which came swiftly. Sawhney further revealed that Indian National Security Advisor **Ajit Doval** had to reach out urgently to **U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio**, and that **India contacted diplomats from Saudi Arabia, Japan, and even China’s foreign minister**.
Critics and defense observers now argue that **Sawhney’s statements reflect a growing internal acknowledgment of India’s strategic failures**. They suggest that **India’s aggressive stance** has only exposed the **limitations of its military doctrine**. Moreover, his remarks have reinforced speculation that **India sought U.S. mediation** for a ceasefire, further undermining its narrative of dominance.
Sawhney’s candid assessment is being seen as **a rare moment of truth in Indian media**, where hawkish rhetoric often overshadows ground realities. It also serves to validate Pakistan’s claim that **its defensive posture was justified, credible, and ultimately effective**.
