Kiswah of the Kaaba Raised Ahead of Hajj to Protect Its Sanctity and Condition

In line with annual tradition, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has raised the Kiswah (cover) of the Kaaba by approximately three meters ahead of the Hajj season. The initiative aims to safeguard the sacred cloth from potential damage during the busy pilgrimage period and ensure its cleanliness and preservation.
According to Al Arabiya, the elevated portion of the Kiswah will remain raised until the 15th of Dhul-Hijjah. A white cotton cloth has been draped around the exposed area on all four sides to maintain the sanctity of the structure. The task is carried out by a specialized team of experts from the Kiswah Factory, under the close supervision of senior officials.
The administration explained that during Hajj, millions of pilgrims visit the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Many, overcome with religious fervor, try to touch, kiss, or cling to the Kiswah. In some cases, individuals attempt to cut off pieces of the cloth as keepsakes, risking damage to the sacred covering. Raising the Kiswah is a precautionary measure to prevent such occurrences.
Authorities stated that this step is not only essential for the protection of the Kiswah but also serves to uphold the sanctity and reverence of the Holy Kaaba.
