Protests Over Canal Dispute Halt Medicine Delivery from Karachi Across the Country

Karachi: Protests over the canal dispute have disrupted the national highways, halting the delivery of medicines from Karachi to the rest of the country. Due to the ongoing road blockages, the transportation of medicines to Punjab and other provinces has been suspended, with essential medicines now being sent via air transport. Meanwhile, logistics companies have also stopped taking stock for ground deliveries.
According to Abdul Samad Memon, Chairman of the Pakistan Chemists and Druggists Association, the road blockages have created significant delays in the delivery of medicines. Medications meant to be transported by land are now stranded, and crucial medicines are being rerouted through air channels.
However, Memon reassured that there is no immediate shortage of medicines in other cities, as most cities keep a stock of one to one and a half months’ worth of supplies. Additionally, medicines that require cold chain storage are generally transported by air. He cautioned, though, that if the road blockages continue for an extended period, the country could face a shortage of medicines.
