Disparity in Electricity Usage: Officials Enjoy Free Units While Public Faces Overbilling

Islamabad:In Pakistan, a stark contrast in electricity consumption has surfaced, highlighting disparities between the general public and high-ranking officials. As households and businesses grapple with soaring electricity bills, investigations reveal that top government officials, judges, and bureaucrats benefit from generous monthly allocations of free electricity units.

According to a report by V News, protected consumers have faced disconnections due to unpaid bills, while:

– The President and Prime Minister of Pakistan receive unlimited electricity units during their tenure and substantial allowances post-retirement.
– Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts enjoy 2,000 free units per month, both during service and after retirement.
– Federal ministers, contrary to public perception, cover their entire utility bill expenses from personal funds, amounting to approximately PKR 22,000 for electricity.

Meanwhile, the average citizenry continues to struggle with overbilling issues and service interruptions, prompting calls for greater transparency and equity in utility provision across the country.
