Nobel Institute Criticizes Imran Khan’s Nomination for Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Institute has criticized the recent nomination of Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for the Nobel Peace Prize by Norway’s Centre Party. Christian Berg Harpviken, the Director of the Nobel Institute, addressed the issue in an article published in a Norwegian newspaper, claiming that the nomination was strategically timed to influence Norwegian voters, particularly the Pakistani community.
Harpviken expressed concern that this was the first instance where a leader used the announcement of a Nobel nomination in such a manner, ultimately undermining the prestige of the prestigious award. He suggested that the nomination was made not with genuine intentions, but to sway political support within the diaspora ahead of elections.
The Nobel Institute has not confirmed whether it will investigate further into the nomination, but Harpviken’s comments have raised questions about the intersection of political maneuvering and the Nobel Prize’s integrity.
