Pakistan, Qatar Issue Joint Statement After Iran-US Talks in Switzerland

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Qatar have issued a joint statement following the conclusion of the first round of Iran-US negotiations held in Switzerland under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the first phase of talks has been successfully completed, marking an important step toward a broader diplomatic process between Tehran and Washington.

The joint statement, released by the foreign ministries of Pakistan and Qatar, said that the parties agreed to establish a high-level committee to oversee and monitor the negotiation process. A 60-day roadmap has also been approved to facilitate progress toward a final agreement.

The statement further noted that technical negotiations between Iran and the United States will begin immediately. A dedicated communication channel has been established to ensure the safe movement of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.

In addition, the parties agreed to create a deconfliction cell to support the implementation of the ceasefire in Lebanon. Separate working groups will also be formed to address issues related to Iran’s nuclear program and international sanctions.

According to the Foreign Office, the deconfliction cell will include representatives from Lebanon as well as the mediating countries. Pakistan and Qatar pledged to continue their efforts to maintain a constructive atmosphere and help advance the dialogue process.

The statement added that technical-level discussions will continue throughout the remainder of the week at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland as negotiators work on the practical and technical aspects of the proposed agreements.
