PPP Decides to Dissolve Power-Sharing Committees, President Zardari to Lead Talks with Govt

Islamabad:Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to dissolve the committees involved in power-sharing negotiations with the government. A decision to this effect was made during the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held in Islamabad.
The party has now granted full authority to President Asif Ali Zardari to lead the negotiations on power-sharing with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This decision comes at a time when PPP has expressed multiple grievances regarding the government’s policies, as highlighted by party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Recently, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticized the government’s approach, stating that the ruling party is making policies as if it had a two-thirds majority. “When rulers make decisions solely based on their will, the entire system collapses,” Bilawal added, emphasizing that sometimes the government itself creates problems.
In the CEC meeting, concerns were also raised regarding the federal government’s agricultural tax, with the suggestion to reduce it from 45% to 20%.
Furthermore, the meeting expressed worry about the controversial canal constructions and demanded an immediate joint session of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) that has been delayed for 11 months.
After the meeting, PPP’s General Secretary Nayyar Bukhari spoke to the media, reiterating the party’s stance on several key issues. He called for the government to take immediate steps to ease tensions in Kurram District and to hold local body elections in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Additionally, the party called for a clear stance on the proposed amendments to the PICA Act.
This decision signals that PPP is gearing up for more direct involvement in resolving key political matters, underlining its ongoing concerns with the current administration’s policies.
