Punjab Assembly Members Propose 400,000 PKR Salary Increase

Lahore: A bill proposing a substantial increase in the salaries of members of the Punjab Assembly will be presented today. The bill suggests a 400,000 PKR increase in the monthly salary of Assembly members.
If the bill is approved, the salary of members currently earning 100,000 PKR per month will increase fivefold, starting January 1st. The session will be chaired by Deputy Speaker Malik Zaheer at 2:00 PM, during which members will also address attention notices, audit report responses, and questions on the excise, taxation, and drug control sectors. Additionally, a debate on the law and order situation in the province is expected.
It is worth noting that Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) currently receive a monthly salary of 156,000 PKR, but unlike provincial lawmakers, they do not receive official vehicles, with only 8,000 PKR allocated for utility bills. Recently, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the house that federal ministers earn nearly 200,000 PKR less and often choose not to take their full salary, while also being entitled to a 1500cc car and 400 liters of fuel per month.
