FIA Warns of Cyber Crime as Fraudsters Pose as HEC Representatives to Hack WhatsApp Accounts
Islamabad:The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle has issued a warning to the public after discovering a new scam in which criminals are impersonating representatives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to hack WhatsApp accounts.
According to FIA officials, these criminals contact individuals on WhatsApp, claiming to be HEC representatives, and request users to share a verification code under the pretext of confirming their academic degrees. As soon as the unsuspecting user shares the code, their WhatsApp account is compromised and hacked.
The FIA has urged citizens to be cautious and avoid sharing any verification codes or personal information in response to unsolicited messages or calls. They have advised that if anyone receives such suspicious messages or calls, they should immediately report the incident to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing.
The FIA also warned that these criminals are using sophisticated tactics to deceive people, emphasizing the importance of protecting personal data and being vigilant against cyber fraud.
