PTI Leaders, Including Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, Named in New Terrorism Case Following Islamabad Violence
Islamabad:In the aftermath of the violent protests in Islamabad, a new case has been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including party founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, former President Arif Alvi, and other senior party figures. The case, filed at the Naseerabad Police Station in Rawalpindi, accuses the PTI leadership of inciting violence during the demonstrations, and includes terrorism charges among other serious offenses.
The FIR, which names 75 individuals, alleges that on November 22, during a meeting at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan instigated a march towards Islamabad, while Bushra Bibi’s social media posts further fueled the unrest by encouraging PTI supporters to take to the streets. The charges also claim that the PTI leaders orchestrated a conspiracy to block roads, obstruct public pathways, and attack police officers with sticks, slingshots, marbles, and stones.
The charges include terrorism, as well as other provisions under various laws related to public safety and order. The case follows a series of violent confrontations between PTI workers and law enforcement during the Islamabad protests.
**Previous Cases Filed**
Earlier, on November 26, a separate case was filed in Taxila against Imran Khan and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for their alleged role in the killing of a police constable and injuring three other officers near the Hakla Interchange. This case also named several PTI figures, including Salar Khan Kakak, Shahid Khattak, and Umar Amin Gandapur, and included sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Additionally, on November 25, another case was lodged under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Taxila Police Station, naming Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Aliya Khan, Arif Alvi, Asad Qaiser, Ali Amin, Shehryar Riyaz, and Hamad Azhar, in connection with alleged acts of terrorism linked to PTI’s ongoing protest campaign.
**Context of the Protests**
The violence erupted after PTI announced a massive protest rally in Islamabad, calling for the resignation of the government and the release of party leaders, including Imran Khan. The protests escalated as PTI supporters clashed with police, resulting in several injuries and deaths. PTI leaders have maintained that their protests are peaceful, but the government and law enforcement have accused the party of inciting violence and disorder.
This series of legal actions reflects growing tensions between the government and PTI, with both sides blaming each other for the unrest and casualties. The situation continues to unfold as Pakistan deals with the political and legal fallout from these protests.
