Dr. Akash Murder Case: Suspects Make Key Revelations, Stolen Rs2 Million Yet to Be Recovered

KARACHI: Significant developments have emerged in the investigation into the murder of Dr. Akash, who was shot dead during a robbery near Teen Talwar in Karachi’s Clifton area. Police say the arrested suspects have made key disclosures during initial interrogation, while the Rs2 million stolen in the incident has yet to be recovered.

According to investigators, the three arrested suspects—identified as Aslam alias Baba, Ram Chand, and Anil—are members of an organized gang involved in robbing individuals withdrawing cash from banks and targeting businessmen in Karachi.

Police said the gang leader, Aslam alias Baba, along with his accomplices, is a resident of Quaidabad. Investigators revealed that a woman was also involved in the robbery that resulted in Dr. Akash’s death. The suspects allegedly divided the stolen money among themselves after the crime.

During interrogation, Ram Chand disclosed that he met Aslam Baba in Landhi Jail in 2021, where they became acquainted and later formed the criminal gang. He further claimed that the gang had carried out three bank-related robberies over the past two weeks.

Police officials stated that suspect Anil was wanted by Malir Police and had previously been involved in the robbery of a businessman in Shah Latif Town, where approximately Rs10 million was stolen. Two of his accomplices were later arrested, and Rs5 million was recovered during that investigation.

Investigators believe that a seven-member gang, including Anil and Ram Chand, has been involved in multiple cash-snatching incidents across the city.

Meanwhile, during proceedings before the Judicial Magistrate (South), police submitted an initial investigation report and acknowledged that the Rs2 million stolen from Dr. Akash had not yet been recovered.

The report stated that three suspects, including a woman, remain absconding. The arrested suspects allegedly confessed to robbing Dr. Akash and being involved in the exchange of gunfire during the incident.

According to their statements, the gang targeted an individual who had withdrawn cash from a bank near Teen Talwar. The suspects claimed that a security guard present at the scene opened fire on them after the robbery, prompting them to return fire before fleeing.

The accused later learned that one of the bullets fired during the exchange had fatally struck Dr. Akash, investigators said.

Based on their confessions, the suspects have now been formally nominated in the murder case. Police have identified the remaining absconding suspects as Aslam Panhwar, an unidentified woman, and another unidentified male accomplice.

The investigation report further noted that police are yet to recover the stolen Rs2 million, conduct the suspects’ identification parade, and interrogate them in connection with other criminal cases.

Authorities described the accused as habitual and dangerous offenders and said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining members of the gang and complete the investigation.
