PCB Rejects Hybrid Model and Lucrative Offer for Champions Trophy Hosting

Islamabad: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has once again rejected the hybrid model and a lucrative offer made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the hosting of the Champions Trophy. Sources suggest that Pakistan is still steadfast in its position against adopting the hybrid model, and despite several days having passed, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has not yet provided a written response to the PCB’s letter.
Recently, the Indian board, through its media, offered Pakistan a substantial financial package in exchange for adopting the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy. Under this model, India’s matches would be played in the UAE, while the remaining matches would take place in Pakistan. However, PCB has firmly rejected this proposal, insisting that India’s group-stage matches and the final should be held in Lahore.
Although Pakistan is set to host the tournament, the Indian government and board’s refusal to send a team has caused significant issues for the ICC. Meanwhile, broadcasters have expressed concerns as the deadline for finalizing the schedule has already passed.
The Indian board is insistent on holding all the matches in Dubai, while the matter is expected to be clarified in a virtual meeting of the ICC Executive Board scheduled for November 26.
It remains uncertain whether Pakistan will retain the hosting rights for the tournament, with some reports suggesting that the final decision could be made through a vote, which could put Pakistan at a disadvantage. The final decision on whether Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy, the first since the 1996 World Cup, may come today.
