Karachi Youth Support Creation of New Administrative Units Amid Deteriorating City Conditions

KARACHI: Young people in Karachi have also voiced support for the creation of new administrative units, similar to calls emerging from other cities across the country, describing smaller provinces as essential to addressing administrative challenges and improving governance.

Disappointed with the existing system, Karachi’s youth expressed frustration over the city’s deteriorating conditions, saying that despite the passage of several years, there has been little improvement in the metropolitan city’s infrastructure and public services.

They pointed out that University Road remains incomplete even after six to seven years, while roads across Karachi continue to suffer from poor conditions. They said construction projects have been dragging on for years without reaching completion, causing considerable inconvenience to residents.

The young people also highlighted the lack of adequate employment opportunities for the city’s youth, saying that insufficient facilities and limited prospects were making it difficult for them to secure a better future.

They stressed that local residents should be given authority to manage administrative affairs in their respective areas, arguing that decentralisation would improve governance, ensure accountability and help resolve public issues more effectively.

The youth maintained that establishing smaller administrative units was necessary to address the longstanding problems of major cities and ensure better service delivery.
