Governor’s Rule to Continue Until Objectives Are Achieved, Says Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain in place until its objectives are achieved, while clarifying that no formal negotiations are currently underway with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Speaking during a private television programme, Rana Sanaullah said that backchannel contacts between the government and PTI continued from time to time, but there were no formal negotiations between the two sides at present.
He said that terrorism, allegedly spreading with the assistance of India and Afghanistan, had become a serious challenge in the region.
Rana Sanaullah stressed that preventing terrorism was of utmost importance and all stakeholders would be taken on board in this regard.
He maintained that there was no alternative to achieving success in the war against terrorism.
The PML-N leader said that nobody wanted to escalate tensions and there was no actual confrontation, but only differences of opinion.
Commenting on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s opposition to Governor’s Rule, he said the religious leader had every right to disagree with the government’s decision, provided that differences were expressed in accordance with democratic norms.
He added that his party also had the right to disagree with JUI-F’s position, just as the latter was entitled to express its own views.
Rana Sanaullah further said that allegations should not be levelled without evidence, adding that Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain had himself acknowledged that he did not possess evidence to support certain claims.
