Chaudhry Shafay Rejects Impression of Distancing Himself from Brother Salik After Maryam Nawaz’s Legal Notice

LAHORE: Chaudhry Shafay Hussain has reacted to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s legal notice to Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain, rejecting reports suggesting that he has distanced himself from his younger brother.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Shafay Hussain said he had never distanced himself from his brother and would never do so.

He described Chaudhry Salik Hussain as an independent individual with his own opinions, adding that he might have access to information that others were not aware of.

Shafay clarified that his younger brother had not mentioned the Punjab chief minister or the provincial government during his remarks. Rather, he was referring to corruption within the overall system, the existence of which, he said, was widely acknowledged.

He urged politicians to demonstrate greater tolerance and sit together to resolve misunderstandings through dialogue instead of allowing political differences to escalate.

Clarifying his brother’s remarks about the tenure of former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Shafay said Chaudhry Salik had actually referred to the Pakistan Muslim League-Q government in Punjab from 2003 to 2008, when Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was the party president.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has served a legal notice on Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain over allegations of corruption against the provincial government.

A copy of the legal notice was shared through the official social media account of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Besides Chaudhry Salik Hussain, legal notices have also been sent to private television host Naeem Ashraf Butt and the channel’s chairman.

According to the notice, Chaudhry Salik Hussain had made allegations during a television interview, referring to reports of corruption in Punjab and mentioning alleged corruption files.

The chief minister’s lawyer maintained that Chaudhry Salik had failed to provide any evidence in support of his allegations. The notice described the claims as baseless, unverified and defamatory.

The legal notice also accused the television host of broadcasting the allegedly unfounded allegations and facilitating further discussion on the matter.

It further stated that the interview did not identify any verified incident, investigation or documented complaint to substantiate the claims.

According to the notice, the allegations had attempted to damage the reputation of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the Punjab government.
