Formula Milk Companies Face Major Setback as DRAP Issues Strict Labelling Directive

ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued strict instructions to manufacturers and importers of formula milk, making it mandatory to display a message highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding on product packaging.
In a major move aimed at protecting children’s health and promoting the importance of breastfeeding, the government has directed formula milk companies to include a clear warning stating that breast milk is best for babies.
DRAP has formally issued a circular containing mandatory instructions for all manufacturers and importers of formula milk.
The decision has been taken on the special directions of the Senate Standing Committee on Health. Under the new requirements, manufacturers and importers of formula milk intended for children aged one to three years must prominently display the prescribed message on all product packs, packaging, labels and containers.
According to the directive, the mandatory statement must also appear clearly on the information panel of the product packaging.
The warning must be printed prominently in both Urdu and English, carrying the message: “Mother’s milk is best for the baby.”
DRAP has directed all relevant manufacturers and importers to ensure immediate and strict compliance with the new instructions.
The initiative aims to raise public awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and encourage healthier nutritional practices for the proper growth and development of children.
