A Race of Injustice Is Underway Among Judges: Shireen Mazari’s Reaction to Daughter and Son-in-Law’s Sentencing

RAWALPINDI (Daily Qudrat): Former federal minister Dr Shireen Mazari has reacted strongly to the anti-terrorism court’s verdict sentencing her daughter Imaan Mazari and son-in-law Advocate Hadi Ali Chatha to 13 years’ imprisonment each, terming it a murder of law and justice and an unfair decision.
According to details, speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, she sharply criticised the justice system and the current government. Dr Shireen Mazari, raising serious questions over the judicial proceedings, alleged that it feels as if there is a regular race among judges to commit injustice — as to which of Judge Majoka, Judge Abul Hasnat or Justice Sapra delivers the more illegal and inappropriate verdict.

She said the judge received an order from above which he read out verbatim. This was a complete sham trial in which the prosecution failed to present solid evidence; even the police’s own witnesses admitted that no one beat them or subjected them to torture, therefore no terrorism context was established in this case at all.
Expressing anger, the former federal minister said that if a judge’s son is involved in a double murder case, he immediately gets relief, and if the Prime Minister’s family faces serious corruption allegations, they too are given exemption and pardon — but on the other hand, our children are treated as if they are the country’s biggest terrorists.
She said that Imaan and Hadi proved every single allegation wrong during the judicial proceedings, yet they were still sentenced to 13 years because this decision was pre-determined. My daughter and son-in-law are paying a heavy price for becoming the voice of the deprived classes, the homeless and helpless, and the forcibly disappeared. Tyrannical rulers do not like raising a voice in favour of the poor. If the Prime Minister is not empowered, then as a moral requirement he should resign from his office.
