LPG prices remain high across punjab despite official rate of Rs280 per Kg

LAHORE: Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices remain well above the official rate across Punjab, including Lahore, with consumers reportedly paying Rs550 to Rs575 per kilogramme.
As per reports, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has set the LPG price at Rs280 per kilogramme. However, the fuel is still unavailable at the notified rate anywhere in the province.
An LPG distributor claimed that an alleged cartel had earned more than Rs2.5 billion in profits over the past two weeks. He said the difference between the official price and the prevailing market rate had placed an additional burden on consumers.
Moreover, shopkeepers said enforcement teams, including the Parah Force, were taking action against retailers, while no comparable action had been taken against LPG plant operators.
They argued that if LPG was supplied to them at prices exceeding Rs525 per kilogramme, selling it at the official rate of Rs280 was not financially viable.
Reports further added that daily LPG consumption in the province ranges from 7,000 to 7,500 kilogrammes. Distributors alleged that sellers were earning more than Rs300 per kilogramme above the official rate.
However, the continued price gap has raised concerns over enforcement of OGRA’s notified rates. Consumers continue to face higher costs, while dealers have called for action across the supply chain rather than against retailers alone.
The allegations of excess profits and the lack of action against plant operators could not be independently verified based on the information provided.
