Seasonal Change Triggers Rise in Cold and Flu Cases at Karachi Hospitals

KARACHI:Hospitals in Karachi have reported a significant increase in patients suffering from colds and flu due to changing weather conditions, with medical experts urging citizens to take preventive measures.

According to Dr Irfan, in-charge of the emergency department at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), around 70 to 80 patients with cold and flu symptoms are now reporting to the hospital daily, compared with 40 to 50 patients previously.

Meanwhile, Civil Hospital Karachi is receiving approximately 30 to 40 patients with cold and flu symptoms each day, up from the previous average of 15 to 20 patients.

### Children, Elderly and HIV Patients at Greater Risk

Medical experts have warned that children, older adults and people living with HIV face greater risks from respiratory infections.

They identified seasonal weather changes as a major factor contributing to the rise in cold and flu cases and advised citizens to take appropriate precautions.

### Experts Recommend Flu Vaccination and Masks

Doctors have urged citizens to get vaccinated against influenza to reduce the risk of infection and related complications.

However, the flu vaccine is reportedly not available through government facilities, prompting concerns about access for the public.

Medical experts have also advised people to wear masks in crowded places and follow preventive measures to reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses.
