Hamid Mir Claims Rs500,000 to Rs600,000 Offered for a Single Tweet Against Political Party

ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Hamid Mir has claimed that some individuals are being offered between Rs500,000 and Rs600,000 for posting a single tweet against a particular political party.

Speaking about press freedom and the challenges faced by journalists, Mir said that when a journalist raises their voice in support of press freedom or speaks out against injustice towards a fellow journalist, the strongest resistance often comes from individuals he described as “so-called journalists” allegedly working to serve government interests.

“These so-called journalists are paid Rs500,000 to Rs600,000 for a single tweet. I am giving you a confirmed rate,” Mir said.

He further claimed that one individual had publicly acknowledged being offered money to post against a particular political party.

According to Mir, the individual had disclosed that he was offered Rs500,000 in exchange for publishing a tweet targeting the party.

Mir’s remarks have raised questions about the alleged use of paid social media content to influence political discourse and the role of journalists in defending press freedom.

However, the allegations regarding payments for political tweets were attributed to Mir, and no independent evidence was provided in the statement to verify the claims.
