Sugar Prices Surge to Rs229 per Kg, Highest in the Country

Islamabad: The maximum retail price of sugar in Pakistan has reached **Rs229 per kilogram**, marking a significant increase, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Over the past week, sugar prices in **Quetta** rose by **Rs19 per kg**, climbing from Rs210 to Rs229 — the highest in the country. PBS reports that consumers in Quetta are currently paying the most expensive rate for sugar nationwide.
In **Peshawar**, the maximum price stands at **Rs200 per kg**, while in **Karachi** and **Islamabad**, sugar is selling at up to **Rs195 per kg**. In **Rawalpindi**, the highest recorded price is **Rs190 per kg**.
Despite regional spikes, the national **average price of sugar decreased by Rs2.01** over the last week, bringing the average to **Rs185.47 per kg**. PBS noted that last week the average price was Rs187.48 per kg.
A year ago, the average price of sugar in the country was **Rs132.24 per kg**, highlighting a steep year-on-year increase.
