QUETTA (Daily Qudrat Quetta) — Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam District Quetta Amir Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Abdul Rahman Rafiq, General Secretary Haji Ainullah Shams, Senior Deputy Amir Maulana Khurshid Ahmed, Information Secretary Abdul Ghani Shehzad, Abdul Samad Haqyar, Mufti Muhammad Abu Bakr, Abdul Bari Shehzad, Akhtar Jan Mari, Maulana Jamaluddin Haqqani, Mufti Rashid Ahmed Haqqani, and Haji Ata Muhammad Shamshozai have said that the deteriorating sanitation situation in the provincial capital Quetta and its surroundings has become life-threatening for citizens. In various areas of the city, scattered heaps of garbage, dirt accumulated in drainage channels, and dust have made citizens’ lives unbearable, and fears of the spread of various diseases due to stench and pollution are also increasing. They said that due to the absence of rain for a long period, dust has increased; due to the lack of effective sanitation arrangements by the Metropolitan Corporation, garbage is accumulating in streets, roads, and neighborhoods. Drainage channels have filled with filth, which not only causes severe difficulties for citizens but is also giving rise to public health problems. The leaders said that Quetta is the capital of the province and an important urban center; despite this, the situation of basic sanitation arrangements is a question mark over the performance of the relevant institutions. They demanded that the Metropolitan Corporation and other relevant authorities launch an emergency sanitation campaign across the city, immediately dispose of garbage heaps, ensure the cleaning of drainage channels, and take immediate measures to control dust.
