Lahore Roti Price rises by Rs3, New rate set at Rs20

LAHORE: The price of roti has increased by Rs3 in Lahore, adding to the financial burden on residents already struggling with rising inflation.
Roti, previously sold for Rs17, is now available for Rs20, increasing daily food expenses for households.
Residents said the weight of the dough used to prepare roti had also been reduced. They expressed concern that consumers were being charged more despite receiving a smaller portion, further affecting household budgets.
Tandoor owners attributed the price hike to rising costs of flour and refined flour (maida). They said flour prices were increasing every week, making it increasingly difficult to cover the expenses of running their businesses.
They also cited gas shortages as a major challenge, saying they had to use gas cylinders to keep their tandoors operating, further increasing their operating costs.
Residents expressed concern over the increase in roti prices and the alleged reduction in weight, saying the higher cost of this everyday staple would particularly affect low-income families.
The increase, driven by rising flour and fuel costs, has once again raised concerns about inflation and the purchasing power of ordinary citizens.
