So-Called Champions of Democracy Became Instruments of Undemocratic Forces for Their Interests and Harmed the Public Mandate: JUI

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta) — Amir of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam District Quetta Maulana Abdul Rahman Rafiq, Secretary General Haji Ainullah Shams, Senior Deputy Amir Maulana Khurshid Ahmed, Supreme Patron Mufti Muhammad Rozi Khan, Maulana Hafizullah, Haji Nematullah Khan Achakzai, Maulana Muhammad Suleiman, Hafiz Dost Muhammad Mengal, Maulana Abdul Basir, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed, Haji Muhammad Shah Lala, Mufti Nik Muhammad Farooqi, and other leaders have said that the so-called champions of democracy, while playing the role of instruments for the protection of their own interests, strengthened undemocratic forces, as a result of which democratic values, the public mandate, and parliamentary supremacy were harmed. They said that democracy is not merely a name for slogans, speeches, and political claims; rather, it is a practical system of the people’s right to rule, the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the autonomy of Parliament. But unfortunately, some political forces made democracy a means of achieving their interests and weakened its basic principles.

The leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam said that when political parties seek the support of undemocratic forces for their temporary interests, the harm is borne not by any one party but by the entire country, the democratic system, and the people. They said that for the stability of true democracy in the country, it is essential that all political forces, rising above personal and party interests, adopt a uniform stance for the supremacy of the Constitution, respect for the public mandate, and the autonomy of Parliament. They further said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has always given priority to principled politics, constitutional struggle, and adherence to democratic values, and has raised its voice in every era for the protection of the people’s right to rule. The leaders said that political differences are the beauty of democracy, but making differences a means of personal interests, power struggle, and undemocratic intervention is not in the interest of the country and the nation. They said that the people now want to see practical performance rather than political slogans; therefore, parties claiming to be democratic will have to prove through their conduct that they truly believe in the supremacy of the public mandate, the Constitution, and the parliamentary system.
