Peshawar Sealed at Key Points Amid Governor’s Rule Fears, BRT Service Suspended

PESHAWAR:Several areas of Peshawar have been sealed with shipping containers, and the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service has been temporarily suspended amid concerns over possible governor’s rule, an emergency declaration and an unusual security situation.

According to media reports citing sources, major roads and sensitive locations, including Bacha Khan Chowk, Khyber Road and Firdous Chowk, have been closed to traffic with heavy containers. Additional police and security personnel have been deployed across the city, while security arrangements have been tightened.

The TransPeshawar spokesperson said the BRT service had been temporarily suspended to ensure public safety in view of the prevailing security situation. However, all BRT staff will remain on duty at their respective stations, the spokesperson added.

The sudden closure of roads and suspension of public transport have reportedly caused significant inconvenience to commuters and ordinary citizens.

Meanwhile, all staff leaves at the Governor House in Peshawar have reportedly been cancelled with immediate effect amid political uncertainty and the possibility of constitutional measures in the province.

Sources said officers and personnel had been directed to report to the Governor House without delay and remain on high alert.

The developments come amid heightened political and security tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with concerns over possible changes in the province’s administrative and constitutional arrangements.
