Balochistan National Party Leader Criticizes Military Operations, Calls for Dialogue and Reconciliation
Quetta:Ghulam Nabi Mari**, a member of the Executive Committee of the Balochistan National Party Mengal (BNP-M), has expressed strong disapproval of the government’s decision to announce military operations in Balochistan amidst the current tense situation. He emphasized that, instead of opting for military action, the government and establishment should have chosen to engage with all stakeholders in a process of reconciliation.
In an exclusive interview with an international news agency, Ghulam Nabi Mari stated that the ongoing military operations in Balochistan marked the sixth such operation since the creation of Pakistan. He urged both the political and military leadership to reflect on the past and consider the outcomes of these operations. “What has been the benefit and what has been the cost of these military operations?” he questioned.
Mari pointed out that there are already ongoing military operations in Balochistan, which are exacerbating the situation. “People are being forcibly disappeared, and this is leading to a decline in the number of individuals who believe in elections and parliamentary politics in the province,” he said. He further argued that the military operations in the past, initiated by military dictators, have contributed significantly to the deteriorating conditions in the region.
“Those dictators who conducted military operations in Balochistan in the past have left behind a legacy of failed policies that have made the situation worse,” Mari added. He criticized the current government, stating that the ruling authorities still fail to understand the consequences of their actions. “They do not realize the path they are on, and this is causing more harm than good,” he said.
Ghulam Nabi Mari’s remarks reflect the growing frustration in Balochistan over the ongoing military operations and the increasing militarization of the province. The BNP-M has long advocated for peaceful dialogue, greater autonomy for Balochistan, and an end to military interventions that have fueled resentment among the local population.
